What is A Digital Printing Membrane Switch?

Generally speaking, the digital printing method is invented specializing for gradually changing colors, which unable to carry out by screen printing. It is more of a method of using AI files to convert digital slave devices to print product patterns. The process is similar to when we print a photo on a printer.

The main feature of digital tactile membrane switch is the color formed by CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) elements, rather than pure pantone or RAL color. Contrast to screen printing, its production cost is relative lower if the production quantity is higher. But for sample order, its lead time and cost will be higher than screen.

  • The metal domes in membrane switch are always nickel plated, but if the product requires lower resistance, excellent conductivity and longer life cycle, gold plating is a better choice.
  • If you are wondering design with ESD/RFI shielding, carbon paste, silver paste and aluminum foil are the three mainly choices. Generally, if the product does not need to design top circuit, then aluminum foil has the advantages on the conductivity and cost. Both carbon paste and silver paste can serve as Electrostatic shielding material on the top circuit, but carbon paste has a lower cost than silver. ITO film also can be designed as RFI shielding, but it is much expensive than others.
  • The exposed trace needs to be coated with carbon layer or OPP adhesive as additional protection. If necessary, the line also needs to be insulated between the two groups of cross traces by bridging the UV insulating oil screen. In order to prevent the trace from being oxidized and the conductive silver from falling off, UV insulating oil needs to be coated as protection.
